Rock Bottom
Now I have officially hit rock bottom. My dad decided to find out why my credit is bad, so I decided to help because he can't do anything without my info. Well, we get on there and go through the whole spiel to find out that the reason that my credit is bad is because some one is or was using all my info to get a morgage!!! WHY DOES ALL THIS SHIT KEEP HAPPENING TO ME!!!!???? And then my dad gets all pissy and blames me for this! He blames me for everything!! Now he says I can't get a job because of my credit. Is that even possible?? I mean it's not like I did anything to deserve this and if I did could someone please tell me what I did?? I don't know what to do anymore. I want to move but I can't because I have no place to go. I want a better cell plan but my credit won't allow it. I really wish I knew what to do.

Well, the FIRST thing you need to do is get the bad, identity-theft related marks off your record.

Here's the Federal Trade Commission's page regarding what to do if you're a victim of identity theft. It'll give you some guidelines on what you need to do. Doing nothing is a very poor option; those marks will stay on your record for years if you don't get them removed.

As for getting a job.. well, your dad's partly right. Unfortunately, many companies run credit reports on prospective employees as part of their screening process.

I've had a "bad credit record" since 2001, but it hasn't kept me from finding work -- a major local company hired me (straight employee, not temp) a few years back even though I had a major black mark on my history. Come companies don't pay as much attention to credit history as others do.

In any case, having bad marks on your record doesn't help... making it even more vital that you get this cleared up ASAP. It's going to require a substantial amount of time and effort on your part to set things straight with the credit bureaus, but it won't be time wasted.

I know. I'm on my way to get my credit fixed and I'm still looking for a job. All I can do is keep trying. =^_^=
